Jae A. (253) | Monday September 19, 2011, 4:22 pm Touchy subject no doubt but I don't think it will . The GOP doesn't want reform in general, they certainly don't want anything done about 'illegals' in this country much less ways for them to become citizens with less red tape. They wanted the illegals to work 'their corporate fields' and for 'domestic' help but when the realestate building boom hit the field workers crossed over in large numbers to the contruction area of things..and for a lot more money per hour. That threw their desire/need for low wage [below that of min. wage in most cases] workers for 'their fields' all out of whack ,so to say, but they still want them but they don't have the courage to say that of course. Terry King (68) | Monday September 19, 2011, 6:56 pm I have never understood why legal immigrants who have obeyed our laws and achieved citizenship so rabidly support illegal immigrants. They are among the first to suffer the effects of unfair labor competition. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Susanne R. (97) | Monday September 19, 2011, 8:16 pm It's pretty scary that when Governor Perry finally says something that makes him appear to be human and have some common sense and human compassion, the audience jeers him! You have to admit, Karl Rove is a genius. An evil genius, but a genius no less. It's as though the Republican party has its own Lex Luthor! Too bad he doesn't use his scheming, calculating mind to do some good for this country. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. William K. (241) | Monday September 19, 2011, 9:13 pm Losing the Latino vote cost Meg Whitman the California governorship. Perry knows this. He could not carry Texas without the support of this voting block. The rhetoric may not drive Latino voters away fiom the Republican party (although it very well may), but it might provide Perry with a boost from Latino voters within the party. "And there was this from former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum: "What Gov. Perry's done is he provided in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. Maybe that was an attempt to attract the illegal vote ? I mean, the Latino voters."" Now that was simply a blatantly racist comment. Latino = illegal Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Please try again later. ? |
Jae A. (253) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 1:37 am I can't understand that either Terry. Maybe for a few it does but for some of the Latinos citizens we've talked with ,in general do not have a positive opinion of illegals anymore than some of us do. They do express that they would like to see less red tape for those wanting citizenship but not an amnesty program as that isn't a solution to anything other than a new starting point for the next generation of illegals. Some we have talked to say they went throught the long process and that it was worth it in the long run but that much of the red tape really wasn't necessary in their opinions but nearly all say they favor the process over that of illegally being in the country. No respect for the country nor for those who did take the proper route etc. I think the majority of the Latino citizens in this country see through this effort of the GOP just as the rest of us do.Just my opinion naturally :-). Brian M. (54) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 8:26 am Immigration is a remarkably complex issue within the latino community. Many Latino-Americans oppose anything that represents a threat to their community. Paradoxically, many other Latino-Americans support immigration restrictions over concern that the newly arrived will take their jobs. And, there is a wide spectrum of opinions in between. Our nation needs reasonable, responsible immigration reforms to supply our nation with those who can contribute to it in terms of education, skills, etc. And, if one notes the restrictions that so many countries in Europe impose on immigration, it is completely reasonable to also suggest that those who lack meaningful education, skills, etc. to contribute to our nation should be discouraged from settling here. On a separate track, we need to create meaningful policies to permit guest workers into our nation as needed, to send them home when they are done, and to keep them out when they aren't needed. Frank S. (226) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 9:29 am The republicans can keep running all the ads they want. They seem to think that Hispanics are lazy and stupid, like the cartoon of the little man sleeping under the tree, and the Bill Dana show. As far as Mexican-Americans, they are awakening a Goliath. With their stupid stereotypes, pandering to the ever declining right-wing, and stupid political strategies built upon utter nonsense! In ten to fifteen years, when Hispanics become the majority in the Southwestern states. The republicans will be drowning in their tears in a lonely sea of political defeat, from which there will be no return! And all of this will be achieved with only, the Legal Hispanics which are here now! Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Frank S. (226) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 9:47 am The next 15 to 20 years will signal the end of the republican party in the United States! Why? Because numbers and statistics don't lie! Hispanics Are Closer to Becoming the Majority in Texas
"Most remarkable, Texas' non-Hispanic whites ? widely referred to as Anglos ? are no longer the majority ethnic group in that fiercely tradition-bound Anglo culture. Whites now make up only 45 percent of the state's population, down from 52 percent in 2000. Blacks stayed the same at 11 percent."- politicsdaily.com "Sen. Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio, where two-thirds of the residents are Hispanic, told The New York Times. "San Antonio looks like what Texas is going to look like in 15 years."- politicsdaily.com http://www.politicsdaily.com/2011/02/21/hispanics-are-closer-to-becoming-the-majority-in-texas/ Please watch the video in the article below: America's Tomorrow Video

Sam T. (78) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 10:51 am We do need proper immigration reform like Brian said. I think we also need English to be a requirement for those of us who are born here. My grandparents and great grandparents came from Russia and Italy and endured Ellis Island and all learned English. It makes me angry when someone comes here and wants our freedoms yet does not respect us enough to learn English then I don't qualify for a job that would otherwise be mine, because I don't speak Spanish or Polish! If you agree go to www.us-english.org Don't get me wrong I LOVE that we are a melting pot, but we cannot be one if we cannot speak to each other or are angry due to the loss of jobs due to not speaking other languages. The IL driver's license is in 17 different languages and that is plain scary and unsafe!!! Frank, you're right too! The GOP better watch out as long as these people get out there and vote! The problem is not enough Americans get off their butts and vote! If everyone voted the GOP would have been gone already! People have died to be able to vote! I have a picture of my great-grandmother standing in front of a 4ft tall train with a sign, "FREEDOM TRAIN" fighting for women's rights! Now that everyone has it, too many take it for granted (or thinks their vote does not count) and not enough vote. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. Frank S. (226) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 11:52 am I agree with you almost on everything, Sam. However I do believe that www.us-english.org was founded originally by John Tanton, who is the founder of Fair, and their many other umbrella racist groups. I think that if they want people to learn English, then they need to start with one of their own board of directors. Yes, Arnold! I still almost can't understand a word he says, unless its "welcome to Califonia," lol. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Zee Kallah (31) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 12:03 pm You know why we're so deep in debt. Brian M. (54) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 12:04 pm There is some validity to the idea that sharing a common language is a unifying force within a nation. Some countries in Europe require language proficiency to qualify for immigration, so it's not exactly a radical idea. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. Sam T. (78) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 12:08 pm Thanks Frank.! Don't care for Arnold, never have... Honestly, I love an accent! Plus, they are trying! I am for immigration reform and not against people coming here. Both political sides have some good points, but the GOP takes things too far and there are only a few points I agree with, like I am for the right to bear arms. I don't own a gun, but grew up where there was the fear of a ribbid or hungry wild animal (I know wild animals will not hurt you for no reason). Honestly, I don't care who founded www.us-english.org no one is all bad. I just get pissed when someone does not get a job because of people who don't speak English. It has happened to friends and to me! Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Please try again later. ? |

Frank S. (226) | Tuesday September 20, 2011, 2:42 pm Sam, I believe requiring new immigrants to know English will actually increase employment competition for lower wage American jobs. I also believe It can be both a good thing and a bad thing, good for those employers who need bi-lingual or multi-lingual employees and bad for employees who can only speak one language. Especially with the fragile economy we have. Although I do think the employment opportunities and benefits for the two language speakers will probably be greater, than for those who speak only one language.
