HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS ? What Bruce Fuller calls the "sound of freedom" ? the vroom! vroom! from Harley-Davidson motorcycles ? has been everywhere in Lake County the past couple of days.

A couple thousand bikers descended on the county starting Wednesday for the 2012 Florida State HOG (Harley Owners Group) Rally, headquartered at the Mission Inn Resort & Club. Bikers will rev off for home todayfollowing Saturday night's finale ?a concert by the legendary rock group Three Dog Night.

Fuller, of Tangerine, said Lake's rolling hills and country roads are popular with bikers: "The county is made for somebody who owns a motor cycle, it really is." Local government officials and businesses embraced the bikers, who dropped cash wherever they went: "Our economy needs a shot in the arm right now," Fuller said.
