Purdue to announce new president Thursday; Gov. Daniels reportedly nominated

Gov. Mitch Daniels will become Purdue University?s 12th president, announced the Indianapolis Business Journal who cited a source close to the search process.?

The Purdue Board of Trustees will vote on the candidate nominated to be the university?s president Thursday.

The trustees will meet at 10 a.m. in the Stewart Center?s Loeb Playhouse to vote on the candidate, which will succeed France A. C?rdova.? The IBJ reported Gov. Daniels is the only candidate the board will vote on.

Last July, C?rdova announced she would leave the office on July 15 after five years in office.? She is credited with raising the standards, reputation and research profile of Purdue University.? She also led the effort to cut costs at the university and ensure a Purdue degree was affordable.

According to the university?s newspaper, The Purdue Exponent, former president Steven Beering said he heard Gov. Mitch Daniels was a possible candidate for the position.

The student newspaper quoted Beering, stating he heard the governor was mentioned a number of times.

Purdue officials would not confirm the rumors.

Thursday?s announcement and more information on the president-elect will be available on the Purdue website.??
