Eric Greitens Named One of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World

U.S. Navy Veteran, Founder and CEO of The Mission Continues, is named to the 2013 TIME 100.

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) April 18, 2013

TIME named Eric Greitens, Founder and CEO of The Mission Continues, to the 2013 TIME 100. TIME 100 is the magazine?s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The full list and related tributes appear in the April 29 issue of TIME, available on newsstands and tablets on Friday, April 19, and now at time.com/time100.

A United States Navy SEAL officer who deployed four times during the Global War on Terrorism, Eric Greitens founded The Mission Continues upon returning from Iraq in 2007. The Mission Continues is a community service organization that helps post-9/11 veterans transition from their lives in the military by redeploying them on new missions here at home. The organization sponsors veterans in a 6-month service and leadership program where they volunteer for at least 20 hours a week, addressing issues like homelessness, illiteracy, and unemployment. The Mission Continues provides resources and a living stipend to these veterans while they apply their skills to address some of society's most pressing problems.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Eric is a graduate of Duke University. He was selected as a Rhodes and a Truman Scholar and earned a master?s degree and a Ph.D from the University of Oxford. He worked as a humanitarian volunteer, documentary photographer, and researcher in Rwanda, Cambodia, Albania, Mexico, India, Bosnia, and Bolivia. His second book, The Heart and the Fist: The Education of a Humanitarian, the Making of a Navy SEAL, relates Eric?s story of leadership and service as a humanitarian and a warrior, and is a New York Times Bestseller.

The TIME 100 list, now in its tenth year, recognizes the activism, innovation and achievement of the world?s most influential individuals. As TIME Managing Editor Richard Stengel has said of the list in the past, ?The TIME 100 is not a list of the most powerful people in the world, it?s not a list of the smartest people in the world, it?s a list of the most influential people in the world. They?re scientists, they?re thinkers, they?re philosophers, they?re leaders, they?re icons, they?re artists, they?re visionaries. People who are using their ideas, their visions, their actions to transform the world and have an effect on a multitude of people.?
