The Uni?ver?sity of New Mex?ico Small Busi?ness Insti?tute (SBI) at the Ander?son School of Man?age?ment is now accept?ing appli?ca?tions for both the spring and fall 2013 semes?ters. This is the ideal pro?gram for small busi?nesses look?ing for assis?tance in busi?ness projects such as mar?ket?ing, expan?sion, financ?ing or cre?at?ing busi?ness?plans.
Small busi?ness own?ers will work with grad?u?ate and under?grad?u?ate stu?dents, guided by fac?ulty mem?bers and men?tored by SCORE con?sul?tants, to receive con?sult?ing exper?tise and an out?side per?spec?tive on how to improve busi?ness prac?tices. The cost to par?tic?i?pate in the SBI assis?tance pro?gram is?$500.
?Not only is the fee a rea?son?able price for the amount of time and effort put into the report,? said David Ham?mitt, SBI coor?di?na?tor. ?But the stu?dents also have access to sev?eral major busi?ness data?bases that would nor?mally cost busi?ness own?ers thou?sands of dol?lars to use. Busi?nesses are sav?ing money while at the same time receiv?ing the research from the pro?fes?sional con?sult?ing reports.?
Since it was founded in 1978, the SBI has suc?cess?fully helped more than 600 busi?nesses includ?ing startup com?pa?nies, expand?ing busi?nesses, non-profit orga?ni?za?tions and fam?ily busi?nesses. Two recent con?sult?ing projects com?pleted by UNM SBI stu?dents were nom?i?nated for the top three prizes in the national SBI Best Con?sult?ing Report com?pe?ti?tion. The win?ners of the com?pe?ti?tion will be announced at the SBI annual con?fer?ence this Feb?ru?ary in Florida. These pres?ti?gious nom?i?na?tions val?i?date the qual?ity of work done by UNM stu?dents and fac?ulty members.
To par?tic?i?pate in this pro?gram, busi?ness own?ers can sub?mit their appli?ca?tion online or for more infor?ma?tion, visit: Small Busi?ness Insti?tute. Due to high demand, space for the spring semes?ter is lim?ited. The dead?line to be con?sid?ered for the spring semes?ter is Fri?day, Jan.?25.
